Injuries & Moves: Waldrep to IL; Wall, Hernández recalled

On June 17, Gwinnett recalled OF Forrest Wall from Triple-A; OF J.P. Martínez was optioned to Gwinnett; RHP Daysbel Hernández was summoned back from Gwinnett; and RHP Hurston Waldrep was placed on a 15-day intermission due to irritation in his right elbow. According to MLB Pipeline, Waldrep is the Braves’ No. 2 prospect and the No. 72 overall prospect. After his 3 1/3 innings against the Rays on Sunday, he was anticipated to be optioned. Rather, he informed the Braves trainers that his elbow soreness was more intense than usual, and he was placed on the injured list.

In both of his two Major League starts, the 22-year-old right-hander, who was selected in the first round of the previous year’s Draft, has been chased in the fourth inning.

Wall has played for the Braves just once this season, but he has produced a ton of hits.In 44 games at Triple-A, Hernández hit 287/.393/.415 with four home runs and eleven steals. He is back in Atlanta, where he has pitched three scoreless innings in three appearances this season.

Waldrep was told he was being sent down after a June 16 start against the Rays, but he was placed on the injured list after alerting the team’s trainers that he was battling with right elbow soreness. On June 17, the 22-year-old thrower was still being evaluated.

Ynoa has struggled to return since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2022. The right-handed pitcher had three outings for Triple-A Gwinnett this year, but he hasn’t pitched since April 14. He was placed to the 60-day IL on June 16 to provide a 40-man roster slot for Grant Holmes.
