Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa signs 4-year, $212.4 million contract extension

The Miami Dolphins and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa have reached an agreement on a massive new contract extension. The former first-round draft pick, who confirmed the signing on social media on Friday, put his signature under a four-year, $212.4 million pact.

His annual average value of just over $53 million makes Tagovailoa the third highest-paid quarterback in the league at the moment. Only Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence at $55 million each have him surpassed in that category.

Tagovailoa joined the Dolphins as the fifth overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft out of the University of Alabama. Over the next four seasons, he started 52 games and under head coach Mike McDaniel developed into one of the league’s most prolific quarterbacks.

In 2023, he was named to the Pro Bowl after completing 388 of 560 pass attempts (69.3%) for a league-leading 4,624 yards with 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. The Dolphins went 11-6 in the regular season and qualified for the playoffs, but they ended up going one-and-done in the postseason.
