Insider Believes Jacob Trouba Will Stay With Rangers

The New York Rangers have made waves this offseason by looking to trade their captain, defenseman Jacob Trouba. Reports have previously indicated that a deal was in place between the Ranger and Detroit Red Wings, but Trouba used the power of his 15-team no-trade list to stop the move.

Trouba might yet be able to succeed in New York, even with the extreme hostilities between the parties. Emily Kaplan of ESPN reports that Trouba should be on the Rangers roster when the 2024–25 season begins.

“My gut tells me he will be on the Rangers opening night roster if I had to put money on it right now,” Kaplan said to Jay Onrait on TSN. “Even though over the past few days and weeks, this has been a really uncomfortable process.” Trouba might have been a victim of the Rangers’ aggressive offseason roster rebuilding efforts, according to Kaplan’s observations.

Although Trouba might still be traded before the NHL season begins, it seems like he will remain on Broadway for the time being. Kaplan also questions what effect Trouba’s presence would have on the atmosphere in the Rangers room.

Drury may be looking for moves and willing to make tough decisions, but everyone must stick together as a single unit.

“This was a really awkward and uncomfortable situation behind the scenes.”

Trouba has two years remaining on his contract at $8 million per year against the salary cap.
