Texas Rangers preparing for multiple players return from injury amid team’s recent skid

The announcement by the Texas Rangers (33-38) that pitcher Josh Sborz and third baseman Josh Jung had started their rehab assignments with Triple-A Round Rock was encouraging news regarding injuries.

On Sunday, Jung went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the Express’ 13-3 loss to the Tacoma Rainiers while Sborz struggled in his lone inning of work giving up two runs off two hits with a strikeout and a walk in 0.2 innings of work.

Sborz has been out since May 8 with shoulder tightness and Jung since April 1, with a fractured wrist.

Pitcher Max Scherzer may possibly be back for the Rangers soon after being placed on the disabled list. In his most recent appearance for the Round Rock Express on Saturday, the two-time World Series winner gave up three runs off four hits in 4.2 innings while striking out eight and walking two.

Due to a lower back herniated disk, Scherzer has not yet made a pitch for the Rangers this season. He has not experienced any setbacks. Bruce Bochy, the manager of the Texas Rangers, stated he anticipates Scherzer returning to the starting lineup this week.

The New York Mets, who were Jacob deGrom’s last team, will play the Rangers in a three-game series starting on Monday at Globe Life Field at 7:05. deGrom is still listed as injured.
