2024 NRL Signings Tracker: Fifita stays with Titans; Dolphins extend Nicholls

David Fifita, a representative for Queensland Origin, has decided to exercise his player option with the Titans for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, meaning he will stay with the team past 2024.

Fifita had informed the Titans last week that he wouldn’t be taking up the option to extend his stay on the Gold Coast – agreeing to a long-term deal to join the Roosters from the start of 2025.

According to a statement released by the Roosters, “despite his management making the initial approach the Roosters and Fifita personally informing the chairman and head coach of his intent to join the club, Fifita has since expressed doubt.” Because of this, the Tricolours decided to revoke their offer to the forward, “with the view that it is in the Roosters’ best interest.” “I’m extremely grateful for the time and interest shown in me over the past two weeks, but upon further reflection, I have made the decision that I want to remain a Titan beyond 2024,” Fifita stated in a Titans statement.

“I’m excited about the direction the team is taking and being close to home, and my family has been central to helping me make this decision.”

Mark Nicholls, a big man for the Dolphins, has reached an agreement with the team to return in 2025. The 34-year-old prop’s contract option was exercised by the Dolphins on Wednesday, securing his services for the upcoming season.

The labour and expertise he provides to our younger players in the dressing room is just as vital as what he does on the pitch, according to Dolphins CEO Terry Reader. “He is a very popular player around the club.”

Hooker Wayde Egan will remain at the Warriors until at least the end of 2027 after signing a new deal with the club. Already contracted to the end of 2025, the 2023 Dally M Hooker of the Year Nominee is now locked in for a further two seasons.

After making his debut for the Panthers in 2018, the 27-year-old Lithgow junior moved to New Zealand in 2020 and now has 117 NRL games to his name.
