LB Darius Muasau, 6th-round draft pick, signs rookie contract

The sixth-round draft selection of the Giants, linebacker Darius Muasau, has agreed to a rookie contract. The 6-1, 230-pound Muasau spent three seasons as a player at the University of Hawaii and two seasons at UCLA, amassing 440 career tackles, 16.5 sacks and five interceptions while on the field. Muasau led the Bruins in tackles during his two seasons at Westwood and was selected to the second team of the Pac 12 All-Star team. He completed the 2023 season with 13 starts, 43 solo tackles, 10.5 stops for loss, 4.0 sacks, 6 passes defensed, and 1 interception.

Muasau was twice selected to the All-Mountain West Conference team at Hawaii. He recorded career highs of 109 tackles, 7.0 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, and five forced fumbles in 2021. Muasau was born in Hawaii and has five brothers. Because Muasau was trained by new special teams coordinator Michael Ghobrial at Hawaii, the Giants had strong intelligence on him.

At rookie minicamp, Muasau remarked, “We hadn’t stayed in touch until I saw him at one of the All-Star games, the Shrine Bowl.” “Once I saw him, we stayed in contact, and when I received the call, I was clearly just appreciative of the chance at that moment. My first thought was of Ghobrial. In the same way that Coach Ghobi is in person, I’m happy that my relationship with him from the University of Hawaii has endured, as have all the other coaches and connections I made during my All-Star games, conversations with scouts at the combine, and the entire process. I’m just so appreciative to be here at this moment.”
