Two men in their twenties were killed after their motorbike was allegedly slammed by a speeding vehicle and crushed under its wheels on the Ring Road near the Yamuna Bazar Hanuman Temple early Saturday, according to police sources familiar with the situation.

The tragedy occurred while the slain men, Piyush and Ankur (known by their single names), were returning from Haridwar to their residences in Mehrauli, south Delhi. Peeyush was riding the bike, and Ankur was riding pillion. They were joined by two more companions riding on another bike, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (north) Manoj Kumar Meena.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck driver attempted to flee after driving over the victims, despite the fact that the bike was still stuck underneath. An auto-rickshaw driver and a few other motorists forced the truck to come to a halt. The driver, originating from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended and handed over to police, they said.

The DCP stated that around 2 a.m., the Kashmere Gate police station received a call reporting an accident on the Ring Road near the Hanuman temple. A police crew arrived at the scene. “Both motorbike riders were rushed to Sushruta Trauma Centre in Civil Lines and proclaimed dead upon arrival. A case of hasty and negligent driving resulting in death was filed at the Kashmere Gate police station, and the truck driver was arrested. “His truck was also seized,” DCP Meena stated.
