Sadio Mane could miss the Liverpool meeting after he “failed to live up to expectations

Having left Anfield 12 months ago, Sadio Mane looks set to leave Bayern this summer and miss a meeting with Liverpool in Singapore.

The Senegalese striker finished his Liverpool career impressively with 23 goals in his final season for Merseyside before moving to Bayern Munich for £35m last July.

He hasn’t had the same impact at the Bundesliga giants since, scoring just 12 goals in all competitions and missing the away trip to the World Cup through injury.

The Reds’ pre-season plans could see Mane reunite with his former colleagues in Singapore as Jurgen Klopp’s side prepare to face Bayern Munich on 2 August.

Mane famously produced a spin and a lob to put Liverpool ahead at the Allianz Arena last time the sides met in competitive action, but an appearance on this occasion is far from certain In this sentence. The 31-year-old has been linked with a move from the German champions in recent weeks. Manager Thomas Tuchel reportedly said: “He underperformed.

“The competitive situation is extremely high, the starting position is not easy for him. The player knows that too, he knows my opinion and the opinion of the club.

As with many players across Europe this summer, the Saudi Pro League have reportedly shown interest. Ariadhiah has reported that Mane could team up with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr next season.

Although the links are far from concrete and there does not appear to have been a formal approach at the time of this writing, Tuchel’s scathing assessment of the winger’s campaign is not particularly conducive to a long and prosperous career in Germany.

Arriving from Southampton in 2016, Mane has spent six glorious years on Merseyside, winning every major trophy at his disposal and creating wonderful memories along the way. He will be happy to reunite with the players he worked with in successful seasons, having met Alisson in an international friendly last month.

The striker’s immediate future remains to be seen, but what we do know for certain is that the Reds will face Bayern Munich and Leicester in pre-season in Singapore next month.
