Why Brian Daboll has no excuses if the NY Giants don’t start the season 2-0

Why Brian Daboll has no excuses if the NY Giants don’t start the season 2-0

The Giants have an easy start to the season in 2024

Now that everyone has been able to digest the NY Giants official schedule for a little while, some key takeaways have arrived. For starters, Weeks 3-8 are downright insane, as there’s a tough stretch coming for the G-Men and head man Brian Daboll.

Luckily, though, the Giants have two favorable matchups to start the season: at home against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1 and on the road against the Washington Commanders in Week 2. From our chair, the Giants are in a great spot to start the year 2-0. They’ll need that to happen with the rough six weeks to follow.

Will the NY Giants and Brian Daboll be able to start the season 2-0?

Come Sept. 8, the Vikings indeed will be making the trip to New Jersey and this is going to be the NFL debut for first-round pick J.J. McCarthy. So, his first pro game will include Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns working together to bring him down? Good luck, kid.

Then on Sept. 15, a trip to Washington DC is on the way, and similar to Week 1, the Giants will be facing a rookie quarterback. That’s right, Jayden Daniels will be running the offense for the Commanders and the entire Giants defense is going to hope to make life rough for him.

Yes, Burns and Thiboeaux are the headliners on the outside up front, but Dexter Lawrence will be ready to put in WORK against the Washington offensive line. Don’t forget that Bobby Johnson is Washington’s new offensive line coach – the same assistant who was in charge of the Giants league-worst OL in 2023. Last year with Johnson coaching the Big Blue offensive line, they gave up 85 sacks. Yikes.

The Giants are early home favorites vs. Minnesota and they’ll likely be small underdogs on the road against the Commanders. NY was perfect against Washington last season and we have a feeling things will be the exact same in 2024. In Year 3 for Daboll, he needs to get off to a strong start this September. Could 2-0 be on the way for him and his players? Book it.
