After Liverpool announced a new deal, Dominik Szoboszlai’s medical was scheduled.

Media Digest: Dominik Szoboszlai is set for medical at Liverpool after transfer clause is activated, as the Reds have confirmed a new contract has been signed. Dominik Szoboszlai has cleared medical treatment in Liverpool

According to various reports, Dominik Szoboszlai has today been cleared to travel with Liverpool for his medical.

The 22-year-old is set to leave for Anfield after Liverpool activate their £60m release clause.

The Reds look close to making their second signing of the summer, after activating Szoboszlai’s $76m (£60m/€70m) release clause on Friday (according to BBC Sport). That clause expired yesterday, as Liverpool moved quickly to secure a deal for the 22-year-old. According to The Times’ Paul Joyce, Szoboszlai has now received clearance from RB Leipzig to travel to Liverpool and undergo a medical.

According to ECHO, personal conditions shouldn’t be a problem as Dominik Szoboszlai can play in midfield or on the flank. He is expected to sign a five-year contract.

Szoboszlai’s release clause was due to expire on Friday night, but Liverpool triggered it in time.

The Hungary international, who won 32 caps for his country, was being watched by a number of top European clubs but there was always a chance he would end up in the Premier League. Newcastle were also interested but pulled out of the race after Liverpool held a meeting with the player’s agency earlier in the week.

Szoboszlai is earning around £80,000 a week at Leipzig but could see a significant boost after moving to Liverpool.

Liverpool have a good relationship with Leipzig, having signed Naby Keita and Ibrahima Konate.

On Friday, Fabio Carvalho was loaned out for a season.

After starting his professional career at Liefering, Szoboszlai signed for Red Bull Salzburg in 2018 before joining Leipzig in 2021. While at Salzburg, he won the Austrian title four times and the Austrian Cup three times.

Since he arrived at Leipzig, he has won the DFB-Pokal twice.

Szoboszlai will be Liverpool’s second major signing this summer following the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.

Adrian signs a new contract with Liverpool

Veteran goalkeeper Adrián has signed a contract extension with Liverpool which will keep him at the club for another year.

The former West Ham goalkeeper had faced uncertainty over his future at Anfield when his contract expired, although Jürgen Klopp hinted before the final home game of the 2022-23 season against Aston Villa that Adrián would be remained. “Adrian, if we don’t say goodbye [already], what would that mean?” Klopp said (via Liverpoolfc.com) “He will probably stay, but if there’s nothing in the papers then it’s not decided yet.

“We won’t [say goodbye] just in case, but I have a feeling we [will] continue to work together in that position.”

Liverpool have now confirmed Adrian’s new contract, which runs until the end of the 2023/24 season. The 36-year-old replied on Twitter: “Once red, always red. I’m so proud and happy to be a part of you for another year! YNWA.”
