‘Grateful’ Allen Robinson says he has ‘a couple more years’ in him

The Pittsburgh Steelers cut Allen Robinson on March 8, a move he describes as “a little surprising.”

Including a postseason game, the seasoned wide out started every game for Pittsburgh in the previous campaign. Despite his lower-than-average stats, Robinson was a dependable target for a club that rotated through three starting quarterbacks, who combined for the second-fewest touchdown passes in NFL history with a total of 13. Furthermore, Robinson was never informed by the Steelers that they might release him before they actually did.

And he wasn’t ready to call it quits. Coach Brian Daboll described Robinson’s impressive workout as a “good workout,” and on May 9, Robinson signed a contract with the Giants, his sixth team.

“Whenever you can join a culture,” Robinson stated, “not to mention the Giants organization as far as being a successful place in general – whenever you can step into a culture like that as a football player, that’s awesome.”Robinson has played four seasons with Jacksonville and Chicago, as well as solitary seasons with the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh, making him one of the NFL’s most productive receivers of the past ten years. As of the 2024 season, Robinson is 20th among active players with 562 receptions and 7,028 yards gained. His 43 touchdown catches are tied for 19th place with Seattle’s DK Metcalf. “I adore the game and am so grateful for it. Really, this game has altered both my life and the lives of my family members,” Robinson remarked. “I take practice and games very seriously, and I come onto the field with a great deal of pride every time I step foot there. As I’ve already stated, guy, I even remember back to eleven years ago when all I wanted was to be able to accomplish some things and have a successful profession. I don’t take anything for granted, and I feel quite fortunate to still be in it after 11 years.”

A lot of receivers, especially one who turns 31 in August, would be content to carry those stats into retirement. However, Robinson never gave it any thought after learning he was unwanted in western Pennsylvania.

“I knew right away I was playing again,” he stated. “I firmly believe that I have a few more years left in me. I wasn’t quite at full strength when the season started last year. I had just healed from a foot injury. I knew for sure that I would be able to use this offseason to train, be incredibly healthy, and do all those things. When it came to playing, I had no doubts.”
