Tony Jefferson is coming out of retirement and plans to play this upcoming season, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report on Tuesday.

The safety, who spent the final season of his career with the Giants in 2022, announced his retirement from football in May 2023 and joined the Baltimore Ravens as a scouting intern last season.

With the Giants, Jefferson appeared in nine games and recorded 23 tackles.

Jefferson, 32, signed with the Cardinals in 2013 as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma and spent most of his nine-year career in Arizona. After four seasons with the Cardinals, he signed with the Ravens and spent the next three years in Baltimore.

Jefferson bounced around in the last three years of his career, spending 2020 with the San Francisco 49ers, then re-signing with the Ravens in 2021 before landing with the Giants in 2022. He has a career 70 tackles, 9.5 sacks and eight forced fumbles in 113 games.

According to Schultz, Jefferson “stayed in shape, has been training, and wants to play again.” He intends to begin talking to teams soon.
