To commemorate their 100th season, the New York Giants today unveiled a “Century Red” uniform, which the team will wear for up to two games in 2024.

The uniform platform is presented by United Airlines and is the culmination of a two-year process in partnership with the NFL. The uniform harkens back to the earliest days of the franchise and features tan pants; red socks with blue and white stripes from the team’s inaugural 1925 season; red jerseys accented with blue from 1933, when the Giants played in the first ever NFL Championship Game; and an iconic winged helmet honoring the 1938 champions as the Giants became a cornerstone in the foundation of the league. All of the team’s 2024 jerseys will feature the team’s “100 Seasons” patch.

“I feel like it’s gritty and vintage,” linebacker Bobby Okereke said after he saw (and tried on) the uniform for the first time. “It’s a throwback to the 1920s, 1930s when they were out there just getting grimy. It’s a testament to all the guys who played before. They paved the way for us to play this great game.”

“I like the fact that we stick to the legacy,” outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux said, “and keep paying it forward.”

A closer look at the uniform:

“Century Red” Jersey

The “Century Red” jersey is divided by a thick blue stripe underneath white numbers and traces its roots back to 1933, an important year not just for the Giants but the league as a whole. That season reached a crescendo with the first ever NFL Championship Game, which was played between the Giants and Bears at Wrigley Field in Chicago. While they lost that game, the Giants got revenge on the Bears a year later in the 1934 NFL Championship Game, forever remembered as “The Sneakers Game.” The font used for the jersey numbers is in the unique style of the original 1933 jersey.

Tan Pants

The tan pants, paired with red and blue striped socks, are a throwback to the original ones worn during their inaugural season in 1925, when founder Tim Mara famously purchased the team for $500.

The pants were worn in their third season of existence, when the Giants won their first NFL championship to cap one of the most dominant seasons in their century of football. The 1927 Giants allowed only 20 points in 13 games, a franchise record that will stand forever.

Winged Helmet

Last but certainly not least, the winged helmet was used from 1937 to 1947, including the Giants’ 1938 championship season. During this time, Steve Owen, the winningest head coach in Giants history, was credited with innovations such as the A-formation offense, umbrella defense, and the two-platoon system.

“100 Seasons” Commemorative Patch

The “Century Red” jersey will include the special “100 Seasons” patch.

The patch is a story in and of itself.

The commemorative logo was created to showcase the franchise’s rich history with the background shield inspired by the shape of the Polo Grounds, the team’s first home in 1925 – and with the zeros designed in the outline of Giants Stadium. At the base is a re-creation of the team’s classic skyline logo, representing every player who has worn the Giants uniform. The player is overlaid on a football, which is named “The Duke” in honor of Wellington Mara and features eight laces to symbolize the team’s eight NFL championships.
