If Mohamed Salah leaves this summer, Liverpool will only be able to sign Federico Chiesa.

Liverpool ‘can only sign Federico Chiesa if Mohamed Salah leaves this summer’

Liverpool can only pursue Juventus winger Federico Chiesa over a transfer if striker Mohamed Salah leaves the club this summer, according to a report.

The Reds are said to have long admired Chiesa and recently rekindled their interest in the 25-year-old ahead of the new season.

Chiesa has been tipped to leave Juventus, who were stripped of 10 Serie A points last season after an investigation into the club’s transfer deals and finished in seventh place before failing to qualify for the Champions League. The Italy international has been plagued by injuries at Juve for the past two seasons, returning to just 11 appearances in all tournaments in the 2022-23 season.

The winger’s impressive performances in his debut season with the Old Lady in 2020-21 – in which he racked up 15 goals and 11 assists in 46 appearances before leading Italy to Euro 2020 glory – don’t seem to have been forgotten like some of the best players in Europe. The clubs are still interested in the former Fiorentina player. A recent report claims that Chiesa’s agent Fali Ramadani has traveled to England to hold talks about his client’s future amid interest from the Premier League foursome of Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle United.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, both Liverpool and Newcastle could speed up the hunt for Chiesa if a star player were to start this summer.

In the case of Liverpool, the report said a possible departure for Salah would be necessary if Jurgen Klopp’s side go through with a deal to sign Chiesa.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have both Chiesa and Leicester City’s Harvey Barnes on their radar, but may need to cash in Allan Saint-Maximin to balance the score.

Since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2017, Salah has achieved legendary status at Anfield with an impressive 186 goals and 79 assists in 305 appearances for the Reds in all competitions. The 31-year-old won seven trophies with the Merseysiders, including the Premier League and Champions League, and is regarded as a key player in Klopp’s first team.

Salah, who has reportedly piqued interest from Saudi Arabia, still has three years left on his contract signed last summer, and the striker is said to have no immediate plans to leave the Reds.

Meanwhile, Chiesa also has another three-year contract with Juventus, who will only accept offers of at least €50m for a full-back.
